DPA were commissioned to design a replacement seafront dwelling which would be primarily used as a holiday home. The property is located on the seafront of Tywyn and enjoys uninterrupted views of Cardigan Bay, Gwynedd. The existing cottage was too small to accommodate the needs of our client.
The design was to follow a brief which required the installation of renewable products such as solar panels and ground sourced heat pumps. The design incorporates 3 floors, one of which is a half sunken basement, designed due to height restrictions imposed by the local authority. The dwelling is a steel framed structure incorporating slate stone work and through coloured render to the external walls, and powder coated aluminium glazing.
The roof consists of a composite insulated roof panel with slate tiles laid above. All the materials used on the project have been specified to withstand extreme coastal conditions.
