Project Description

In 2015 DPA were given the opportunity to transform a redundant church, with its own graveyard, into a high-end, luxury single dwelling to be used for holiday lets.

The project was delicate from the start and had to be dealt with sensitively as the building was of historic importance and extensive ground work could have unsettled burial grounds. The church was built in 1912 to the design of W.H. Spaull for the benefit of the Welsh speaking community, replacing an earlier chapel built in 1872 which stood to the south-east of the present building.

With continuous conversation between the client and DPA design team, the project emerged as a fine example of a church to dwelling conversion – retaining all the beauty of the original building and with a spark of modern design. A mezzanine level was installed, windows were upgraded and new kitchen and bathrooms were installed.

Our client is delighted with the result and the “uber cool church” is now being successfully let out for holidays.

“DPA gave me all the advice and creative input I needed to get my project off the ground. They provided a friendly service and were always on the other end of the line if I had a query. I would recommend them”
